In April 2014 Clever Marine Services was appointed by clients to act as Superintendent and Owners/Managers representative to the insurance in a case of Storm Damage to vessel and cargo which occurred of the East Coast of Japan in the East China Sea. The damage occurred on a 11,000 DWT Project Carrier equipped and geared for Heavy Lift cargo.
The vessel docked in Shanghai and our Superintendent arrived at the same day in the Ship Yard and took over the preparation and organization of Surveys, Repair Specifications, Communication between the involved parties, Budgeting , Reporting to Owners & Insurance as well as Recording of relevant working hours , equipment damages.
The vessel could not be discharged completely and therefore the project cargo collies which ranged from 40 to 80 tons in weight had to be shifted in accordance to repair requirements. Our Superintendent in collaboration with Master and Crew of the vessel also assisted in the organization of these cargo shifts in order to keep the Ship Yards down time to a minimum.
Due to the shifting cargo during the storm the vessel suffered structural steel damages in the Longitudinal Bulkheads on Port and Starboard side above and below the Tween Deck of Cargo Holds 1 & 2 as well as to the Tween Deck itself. In total a amount of 30 tons of steel Plate, Brackets, Stringers and Frames were exchanged during the repair period and the repair was completed within 28 days.
All damages, labour and other expenses incurred were accepted by insurance and the Ship Yard invoice achieved was within the clients expectations.
